Marketing Design: Flyer Redesign for ESLTECH 3315
Surviving the Infocalypse: Digital Citizenship in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

As the instructional designer for ESLTECH 3315, I was asked by the instructor, Rick Voithofer, to provide feedback on a flyer he created to market the course. His initial design followed a standard course flyer template, but it lacked the visual impact needed to capture students’ attention. Recognizing the flyer’s role as the “book cover” for the course, I took the initiative to redesign it for maximum engagement and clarity.
This project demonstrated my ability to:
- Apply visual design principles to improve marketing effectiveness.
- Simplify complex information for better engagement.
- Leverage QR codes & digital accessibility to increase ease of enrollment.
- Use strategic communication design to make academic content more compelling and student-friendly.
Key Contributions
Transforming Course Marketing with Design Strategy
- Enhanced Visual Appeal
- Increased the prominence of the course image, making it the focal point to create a sense of urgency and intrigue.
- Cropped unnecessary text and retained only the striking “Surviving the Infocalypse” title to grab attention.
- Streamlined Content for Impact
- Reduced the text-heavy approach from the original flyer, keeping only the essential information needed to direct students to the enrollment page.
- Ensured a concise and engaging layout to maintain interest.
- Optimized for Accessibility & Enrollment
- Added a QR code linking directly to the course enrollment page, allowing students to sign up instantly using their phone’s camera.
- For email distribution, ensured the hyperlink was clearly embedded for easy online registration.
Results & Enrollment Success
- Course enrollment maxed out twice, first at 100 students, then again at 130 students, demonstrating the flyer’s effectiveness in attracting students.
- The flyer generated higher engagement than the original, serving as a visually compelling marketing tool for course promotion.
By prioritizing design, accessibility, and usability, I helped transform a standard course flyer into an effective recruitment tool, ultimately driving record-breaking enrollment.
